The fast liver fraction of alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes in serum has been reported in various hepatobiliary diseases. And the appearance of fast liver fraction in healthy control group has been reported differently among authors.
For the assessment of clinical significance of fast liver fration, we studied in 91 patients who revealed fast liver fraction in serum alkaline phosphatase electrophoresis, using cellulose acetate plate. And we also studied serum alkaline phosphatase electrophoresis in 40 healthy controls, but none of them showed fast liver fraction.
Diseases of patients with fast liver fration were obstructive liver disease(27.4 % ), liver metastasis in cancer (20.9 % ), liver cirrhosis (13.2 %) and primary hepatic cancer (12.1 %) in order.
In conclusion, when the fast liver fraction in serum alkaline phosphatase electrophoresis is appeared, it is necessary to rule out obstructive liver disease, liver metastasis in cancer, liver
cirrhosis and primary hepatic cancer.
